"Portrait of Gillian"

In January 2014 I started to work full time again so time for painting has been very scarce. I tried to do quick little painting here and there but at the end of the work day I mostly feel tired and often fall asleep on the sofa instead working on my easel.-:)

I am so happy that I managed to finish a portrait commission of a very beautiful young girl named "Gillian". I truly enjoyed the process and very happy with the result. I miss painting so much....(it's too bad that this profession doesn't come with steady paycheck or health care benefit for me). -:)

It took me about 1 month to finish, working mostly on weekends and evenings when I had extra energy.

Here are some photos:

I hope you're enjoying your peaceful weekend....

Red Rocks

Happy Saturday!

"Red Rocks #1", oil on canvas, 9x12

Last August my husband & I had the opportunity to explore Colorado Springs area for several days, one of the places we visited was The Garden of The Gods where the rocks were so majestic & beautiful....we went there twice, once in the afternoon (close to sunset) and the following day in the morning. Both times the views were so spectacular!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends!
I can't believe tomorrow is December 1st.

"Laura"

Happy Friday, everyone!

"Laura", oil on canvas, 16x20

This painting was done at Mainstreet Art School in Lake Zurich, IL, during an open studio session last Wednesday night (11.13.13) .
Our model was Laura, a very pretty high school girl with long wavy dark brown hair.
I painted her with 4 colors (cadmium red medium, yellow ochre, ultramarine blue & ivory black) and my goal was "to just have fun with color & shape"!
It was fun indeed working with other artists.... I was glad that I made the trip even though it was quite a cold night.

Thank you for visiting my blog and have a great weekend!

Pumpkin #2

Happy Saturday!

"Pumpkin #2", oil on canvas, 8x10

I was grocery shopping yesterday and I spotted this small gourd with very long stem, I thought that was very interesting. So I painted this last night. I may paint this again someday from different perspective.

I hope you're all enjoying your weekend.-:)

Pumpkin #1

Happy Monday Everyone!

"Pumpkin #1", oil on canvas, 8x10

This past weekend the weather was very nice. I went to Didier Farm in Lincolnshire to enjoy the festivities at pumpkin patch. My daughter used to like going here when she was younger, buying pumpkins, pony ride, petting zoo, some nachos at food stand....no more!-:)
Time flew.
So, I bought varieties of gourds for my still life painting in winter, I hope I can paint these interesting veggies.

My souvenir from the pumpkin patch.

Have a great week and thank you for visiting my blog!

Fall Colors

Hello everyone.....

"Fall Colors", oil on canvas, 8x10

I spent my Sunday afternoon painting this and took a break at a yogurt place with my family in downtown Arlington Heights. Although it was a warm day I could smell autumn in the air, my favorite season.
I like this small gourd & red pear (bought at local grocery, the maple leaf was picked from the ground) and plan to do more (time permits) in the future. So this painting is my welcome to autumn!

Have a great week!
